National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys (CCMg), approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China at the beginning of 2007 and previously named Chongqing Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys, locates in the main campus of Chongqing University. The center is jointly established by Chongqing University, Chongqing Magnesium Science & Technology Co., Ltd., Changan Automobile Group Co., Ltd., Southwest Aluminium Group Co., Ltd., Southwest Technique and Engineering Institute, etc...
At present, the center has a professional research and development team consisting of nearly 40 professors and associate professors, more than 20 post-doctoral scientists and experienced engineers, and more than 100 energetic postgraduates for doctoral and master’s degree.
Back-upped by the funds from National "211 Project", "985 Project" and government R&D projects, the center is equipped with a variety of modern facilities for material characterization and Mg processing equipments, such as, melting, casting, SC casting, twin-roll strip casting, extrusion, rolling and pressing at the scale of trial production, housed in an area of nearly 6000 square meters. More proudly, the center enjoys its easy access to variety of processing equipments in its collaborative enterprises for R&D directly in the environment of mass production.
The center has undertaken more than 30 key projects funded by national and provincial funding agencies. A series of key technologies have been developed and achievements with independent intellectual property have been obtained. Magnesium products for motorcycle, automobile, military and hand tools have been successfully developed and mass-produced in Chongqing, and then adopted by more than 50 magnesium processing and application enterprises in China in the form of technique services and/or project cooperation. These engineering achievements impose a strong driving momentum to the development of magnesium industry nationwide.
The CCMg is the biggest R&D center for magnesium alloys in China.
