CCMGApr 22, 2008

The 3rd of China-Europe Advanced Materials Symposium, which Sponsored by Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), British Consulate General Chongqing (BCG Chongqing), Chinese Materials Research Society (CMRS), Chongqing Science and Technology Commission (CSTC) and Chongqing University, organized by National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys and Chongqing Productivity Council, was held in Kingworld Hotel Chongqing during April 15-17, 2008. As the key part of "Partners in Science" activities of China-EU, this Symposium on Advanced Materials was held with the extensive attention by the materials scientists from China and Europe, and received a total of 108 papers, including about 30 European and 60 Chinese scholars. Prof. Huang Boyun, Chair of Chinese Materials Research Society, Prof. Lu Ke, Director of Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. George D.W. SMITH of Oxford University, Prof. Pan Fusheng, Director of National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys, and Prof. K.U. Kainer, Director of German GKSS Magnesium Technology Center served as the co-chairs in symposium.

During April 15 to 16, totally 50 thematic lectures were held in symposium, including mostly aspects of materials science. All the experts introduced recently development in their research field and exchanged their research experience.

In addition, the experts from China and the EU also discussed in depth how to promote the bilateral cooperation about the advanced materials. They determined that the “light alloy”, “energy materials" and "biomaterials" field served as the start of bilateral cooperation project, and simultaneously elected the “China-EU for the Cooperation Promotion of Light Alloy”, “China-UK for the Cooperation Promotion of Energy Materials” and “China-UK for the Cooperation Promotion of Biomaterials”, followed developed a program to promote the bilateral cooperation. During the symposium, they had consulted and announced the Second World Materials Summit would be held in Shanghai in September 2009. On the last day, the experts of the symposium attended to the 8th China-Chongqing High-Tec Fair (the 4th international dual-use technology expo).
