On December 8, 2009, National 973 Planning Project “Important basic problems in processing and preparation of high performance magnesium alloys” Mid-term Summary Meeting was successfully held in Keyuan Hotel of Chongqing University.
Academician Wang Guodong, 973 expert of ministry of science and technology from Northeastern University, Prof. Zhang Guoding of Shanghai Jiao Tong University , Prof. Xie Changsheng of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Zhang Yanxue, Vice director of department of basic research of ministry of science and technology, Xu Qing, Vice director of Chongqing Science & Technology Commission, Cao Yang, Director of basic research division of Chongqing Science & Technology Commission, Huang Zongming, Vice president of Chongqing University, and Xiong Qingyu, Vice director of research department of Chongqing University attend the meeting. The meeting also invited six peer experts, including Prof. Shi Wenfang, Vice director of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, and Prof. Han Enhou, Vice president of Shenyang Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Representative of project expert panel and units undertaking the project participated, including Chongqing University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, General research Institute for Nonferrous Metals, Beijing University of Technology, Northeastern University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Central South University, Shenyang University of Technology, Lanzhou University of Technology and Shandong University of Science and Technology. Prof. Liu Qing, Chief scientist of the project, presided over the meeting.
Prof. Huang Zongming, Vice president of Chongqing University, had a Welcome speech first, briefly reviewed the development course of the 973 project in Chongqing University, and pointed out that the project was the first 973 projects for Chongqing University as the lead unit, the success of the project declared, showed that Chongqing University already had a strength and high level team of R & D in national important basic theory research. It was a important breakthrough in technological innovation capacity Construction, and was the crystallization of joint efforts of generations of Chongqing University’s people. It marked the scientific research strength and level of Chongqing University upgraded to a new level, and it would play a great role in promoting the development of materials science and related disciplines of Chongqing University, and would also play a positive role in discipline construction, talent training and capacity building of the other departments of school. Xu Qing, Vice director of Chongqing Science & Technology Commission,as the leadership of support unit of project, introduced the implementation and management of project. Zhang Yanxue, Vice director of department of basic research of ministry of science and technology, made an important speech and pointed out the significance of this meeting. Prof. Pan Fusheng, Leader of the project expert panel, affirmed the hard work of each subject group for two years, and thanked them for the support of the project. Then Prof. Liu Qing, Chief scientist of the project, introduced the basic situation of the project. Subsequently, the person in charge of the six subjects and the main parameters of the research staff had the summary report in respect of the outstanding progress, academic influence, evaluation of experts at home and abroad as well as the achievements on the world level of the subject for the two years. Finally, 973 experts, chief scientist, experts of the project expert panel and peer experts fully affirmed the achievement of each subject, and gave the evaluation and suggestions on academic ideas, basic scientific issues, the progress of work and research emphasis of the subject.
Mid-term Summary Meeting was an important link of implementing management of 973 projects for ministry of science and technology. The meeting was beneficial to the smooth implementation of the project. It would be more efficient and high quality to complete research content and objectives of the project, through summarizing achievements and discussing with experts.
