On January 13th, 2011, National 973 Planning Project “Important basic problems in processing and preparation of high performance magnesium alloys” 2010 Annual Summary Meeting was successfully held in Chongqing.
Academician Wang Guodong, 973 expert of ministry of science and technology from Northeastern University, Prof. Zhnag Guoding from Shanghai Jiao Tong University , Prof. Xie Changsheng from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Huang Zongming, vice president of Chongqing University, and Li Xiangdong, vice director of basic research division of Chongqing Science & Technology Commission attended the meeting. Representatives of project expert panel and units undertaking the project, including Chongqing University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, General research Institute for Nonferrous Metals, Beijing University of Technology, Northeastern University, University if Science and Technology Beijing, Central South University, Shengyang University of Technology, and Lanzhou University of Technology, participated in the starting ceremony. Prof. Liu Qing, chief scientist of the project, presided over the meeting.
Li Xiangdong, vice director of basic research division of Chongqing Science & Technology Commission, as the leader of unit undertaking the project, had a Welcome speech first, and introduced management of the project. Prof. Huang Zongming, vice president of Chongqing University, introduced the development of scientific research and technology platform of Chongqing University in recent years. Chongqing University attached great importance to the project, supported the implementation of the project in terms of human, material and financial resources, and hoped this project as an opportunity to promote development of magnesium alloy material and technology research of Chongqing University. Prof. Pan Fusheng, leader of the project expert panel, introduced the main work of the project group, positived the hard work of each subject group for four years, and thanked them for the support of the project. Subsequently, the people in charge of the six subjects and the main parameters of the research staff had the summary report in respect of the outstanding progress, academic influence, and expert evaluation at home and abroad as well as the achievements on the world level of the subject in 2010. 973 experts, chief scientists, experts of the project expert panel and peer experts fully affirmed the achievement of each subject, and gave the evaluation and suggestions on academic ideas, basic scientific issues, the progress of work and research emphasis of the subject.
The annual summary meeting was helpful for each research group of the project to discover the problems and shortcomings, definite the focus and objectives of the research work, ensure the project executed smoothly, and lay an important foundation for the acceptance of the project after one year.
