The launching meeting of the 12th Five-Year National Science and Technology Support Program topic of ‘Development of Extrusion Technology of Special Magnesium Alloy Profiles’ was held Beijing National Convention Center, May 18, 2011. The topic, Development of Extrusion Technology of Special Magnesium Alloy Profiles, is one topic of the Twelfth Five-Year National Science and Technology Support Program of ‘Development of Key Technology of Magnesium Alloy Forming and Application’. This project is undertaken by Chongqing University and some other participation units including Northeastern University, Shanxi Yinguang Huasheng Magnesium Industry Co., Ltd., Shandong Huashengrong Magnesium Technology Co., Ltd., Chongqing Institute of Science and Technology, Dongguan Yian Technology Co., Ltd., Tianjin Dongyi Magnesium Products Co., Ltd., Beijing University of Technology, Zhengzhou University, Chongqing Magnesium science and Technology Co., Ltd., Machinery Research Institute, and Southwest University of Science and Technology. The deputies from the above units attended the meeting. The senior engineer Zhou Kun, Director Wang Huaiguo and engineer Li Bo from China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and Technical Exchange Center as the project organizational unit attended the meeting.

Project Leader Prof. Wang Jingfeng of Chongqing University presided the launching meeting. Director Pan Fusheng extended his warm welcome to the delegates, saying extrusion technology had a very important role in promoting the application of magnesium alloy. He pointed out universities, research institutes and enterprises should expand research cooperation and exploited their own advantages to overcome the key extrusion technology of special magnesium alloy profiles. Director Pan Fusheng hoped the project participation units and Chongqing University should work together to complete the task and target of project successfully. Senior engineer Zhou Kun and Director Wang Huaiguo stressed the importance of the launching meeting and proposed specific requirements for implementation and management of the project. Prof. Wang Jingfeng introduced the overall situation of the project. The participants conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions in assignment of special topic and made the study task, assessment indicators, the progress of the study and budget of each unit. The launching meeting will provide significant help to achievement of the project.
