The 76th International Magnesium Association (IMA) annual conference was successfully held in Budapest, Hungary on May15-17. Prof. Fusheng Pan (Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), chairman of Chongqing Association for Science & Technology, director of National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys) was invited to make a plenary presentation on the annual conference.
The conference is an annual event for the global magnesium experts to exchange information, share successful experiences, broaden horizons, gain innovative ideas, and seek for new cooperation. Nearly 200 experts and scholars from more than 20 countries and regions including China, the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Australia, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Austria and Hungary, et al, attended the conference, bringing the latest information and progress on magnesium materials, processes, technologies, applications and environmental protection.
During the conference, Prof. Pan made a plenary presentation which the topic was about "the Current Status and Future of International Standards for Magnesium Alloys", mainly introduced the progress of magnesium alloy national and industry standards in China, Germany, the United States, Japan, Russia, et al, analyzed the present situation and future development of magnesium alloys international standard, and proposed the global magnesium industry to strengthen cooperation in the field of International Standards. Prof. Pan also called for the establishment of a more extensive and open global magnesium industry cooperation organization as a new platform for extensive cooperation among production, research, education and other institutions. The organization should try its best to attract associations from all parties in the industrial chain to participate freely, promote the development of the magnesium industry together. In Prof. Pan's report, he was planning to establish outstanding award on international Magnesium and Magnesium Alloys standards, and outstanding articles in the Journal of Magnesium and Alloys (JMA), to encourage better technical innovation and academic exchange. Prof. Fusheng Pan’s invited lecture received high recognition from the invited participants.
During the conference, winners of the 2019 International Magnesium Association Excellence Award and Environmental Responsibility Award were announced. The project "production of green magnesium and magnesium alloy based on circular economy and low-carbon pattern" which was held by Qinghai Salt Lake Industry Co., Ltd, was awarded International Magnesium Association Environmental Responsibility Award. The project "Magnesium alloy baby carriage" which was held by Henan Hebi Jianglang Metal Co., Ltd, was awarded the International Magnesium Association Commercial Casting Excellence Award (not automobile category).
The project "Used for Daimler Model T Automatic tailgate lift Gear Box" which was held by Germany Hettich Group Castwerk Company, was awarded the International Magnesium Association Commercial Casting Excellence Award (Automobile category). The project "Bioabsorbable scaffolds made of extruded magnesium alloy tubes" which was held by Fuji Light Metal Co., Ltd, and Japan Medical Device Technology Co., Ltd, was awarded the International Magnesium Association Deformation Product Innovation Award. The project "Thermoplastic processing of high strength Allite patented magnesium alloy ZE62" which was held by Allite company, was awarded the International Magnesium Association Excellent Process Innovation Award.
During the conference, Prof. Pan discussed relevant cooperation issues with Prof. K.U. Kainer (former Chairman of international Magnesium Association, HZG Magnesium Center in Germany), Prof. Luo (Ohio State University) and Prof. K.S. Shin (Member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea).
