The 2016 International and Nationals Standard Meeting on Magnesium Alloy was held in Chongqing Weijing Hotel on Jun. 7, 2016. The conference was chaired by Mr. Huan Xi, Committee Manager of ISO/TC 79/SC 5 “Magnesium and Magnesium Alloys” and Deputy Secretary General of Technical Committee of the National Standardization on Non-ferrous Metal. Prof. Fusheng Pan, chairman of ISO/TC 79/SC 5 “Magnesium and Magnesium Alloys”, made an important speech on "New trends and countermeasures for the development of international and national standards on magnesium alloys". More than 50 experts from more than 20 national units attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed ISO/WD 20258 “Magnesium lithium alloys - Determination of lithium - Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometric method” and “Magnesium Lithium Alloy Ingots” (ISO/PWI). National Standards such as “Magnesium Alloy Billet for Automobile Seat Frame”, “Magnesium Smelting Equipment”, and “Magnesium Alloy Sacrificial Anode for Water Heater”, etc. were also discussed.
The meeting also discussed the arrangements for the ISO Conference on Magnesium and Magnesium Alloys to be held in Tokyo in 2016. As the Secretariat of ISO/TC 79/SC 5 “Magnesium and Magnesium Alloys”, it is required that all the relevant domestic units to actively participate in the ISO Conference and make full preparations for the possible discussion on the International Standards.
[Information and Background]: The Committee of ISO/TC 79/SC 5 (Magnesium and magnesium alloys) was established by the ISO in 1980. It is a professional standardization organization which is responsible for the publication and revision of relevant international standards on magnesium and magnesium alloys. ISO appointed China as the Secretariat, and Mr. Huan Xi as the Committee Manager. The ballot initiated by ISO/TC 79 to appoint Prof. Fusheng Pan as the chairman of ISO/TC 79/SC 5 was finished on May 1, 2016. Prof. Fusheng Pan was elected as the new Chairman of ISO/TC 79/SC 5 (Magnesium and Magnesium Alloys) for the term from 2016 to 2021.
