The working group meeting of ISO/TC 79/SC 5/WG 09 on wrought magnesium alloy products was held in Chongqing University on Mar. 28-29, 2019. The meeting was organized by ISO/TC 79/SC 5 "Magnesium and Magnesium Alloys", hosted by Chongqing University. More than 30 experts and representatives from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Northeast Light Alloy Co. Ltd, Central South University, University of science and technology of Beijing, Northeast University, Shanxi Wenxi Yinguang Huasheng Magnesium Industry Co. Ltd, Beijing General Research Institute of Nonferrous Metals, Dongguan Yi'an Technology Co. Ltd, Henan Aerospace metal materials Co. Ltd, Zibo Deyuan Metal Materials Co. Ltd, Zhengzhou Research Institute and Shandong Yinguang Yuyuan Light Metal Precision Forming Co. Ltd, etc. attended the meeting. Chairman of ISO TC 79/SC 5, Prof. Fusheng Pan, and Committee Manager of ISO TC 79/SC 5, Mr. Huan Xi attended the meeting.

Chairman of ISO TC 79/SC 5, Prof. Fusheng Pan attended the meeting and gave a welcome speech. He pointed out the problems existing in the ISO magnesium alloy international standard. He suggested to make plans for the standards in working group of ISO/TC 79/SC 5/WG 09. Prof. Pan expected that everyone would make joint efforts to develop more and better international standards on magnesium alloy. Prof. Fusheng Pan advocated that experts to participate in standardization work with dedication, responsibility, and develop high-quality standards with the concept of openness, unity, cooperation and complementarity. Committee Manager, Mr. Huan Xi arranged the specific work in the working group ISO / TC 79 / SC 5 / WG 09 on wrought magnesium and magnesium alloy products, and the plenary meeting of ISO/TC 79 “Light Metals " to be held in Chicago.

Convener of the working group, Mr. Xinyu Gao made a preliminary assignments of the working group. The participants discussed the specific work of ISO/TC79/ SC5/WG 09 in detail. They agreed to actively cooperate with the project leader to promote the draft of ISO 23700 "Wrought magnesium and magnesium alloy rolled sheet" and ISO 23694 "Wrought magnesium and magnesium alloy bars and tubes". Project leader of ISO 23700, Prof. Xianhua Chen from Chongqing University reported the progress. Project leader of ISO 23694, Mr. Xinyu Gao from Northeast Light Alloy Co. Ltd. reported the progress. The planned international standards on extruded sheet, profile, wire, forging, and foil for magnesium alloy were also discussed in detail. Two resolutions were approved. The meeting initially decided that the next working group meeting ISO/TC79/ SC5/WG 09 will be held in UK from July to August, 2019.

Prof. Jun Tan, Dr. Yaobo Hu, Dr. Zhengyuan Gao, and Dr. Jiangfeng Song jointly drafted the resolution and minutes of the ISO/TC 79/SC 5/WG 09 meeting.
