Prof. Pan attended the second China University Scientific and Technological Achivement Fair (CUSTAF) and made a keynote report

On May 24, the 2nd China University Science and Technological Achivement Fair(CUSTAF), jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the Government of Guangdong Province, and co-sponsored by the Science and Technology Development Center of the Ministry of Education, the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, the Economic and Information Technology Commission of Guangdong Province and the Huizhou Government, was held in Huizhou.

Fuhe Luo (former vice chairman of the CPPCC national committee), Zhanyuan Du (vice minister of education), Ning-sheng Huang (the vice governor of Guangdong provincial government), T?nu Pullerits (the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences), Colin Collins (member of the Royal Canadian Medical School), and more than 300 representative from national and international education institutions including the University of California, Los Angeles, University of British Columbia, University of Pittsburgh, Beijing University, Tsinghua University, participated in CUSTAF.

Prof. Fusheng Pan (Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), chairman of Chongqing Association for Science & Technology, director of National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys) was invited to attend the 2nd CUSTAF, and give a lecture with the theme topic "current development of science and technology and some thoughts", and "research progress of the new magnesium alloy and advanced processing technology" in the academician session. Xibo Wang (vice chairman of Huizhou People's Political Consultative Conference), and more than 500 representatives from government organizations, enterprises, young members of Commerce, listened the report.

Prof. Pan illustrated the basic concepts of scientific and technological innovation, some major scientific and technological issues, the current status and trend of contemporary scientific and technological development, and the reason for developing magnesium alloy.

"Knowledge innovation with the focus on basic research is an important part of a national innovation system. Without the breakthrough of knowledge innovation, it is impossible to develop sustainably, and effective technology supply. And it is also inappropriate to place the main part of knowledge innovation in enterprises." Pan illustrated the three categories of the scientific and technological innovation system and the diversity of the innovation subjects.

The magnesium resource is abundant, and Magnesium alloy has huge application potential because of its unique characteristics. Mg alloys have been increasing applied in industries including aerospace, automotive, 3C products, energy products and medical fields, with the merits of effectively reducing energy consumption and emissions. Prof. Pan emphasized that magnesium alloy has been incorporated into the national plan as a strategic new material. The participation of mega enterprises will provide more scientific support for the future development of magnesium industry. The increasing pressure of energy conservation and emission reduction, the improvement of national defense security level and the requirement of high-quality life will provide a rapidly increasing market demand for the future development of magnesium industry. Prof. Pan also illustrated the progress and achievements obtained by the CCMg in recent years, including the development of the new materials and technologies and their industrial applications, and expected that everyone engage to promote the development of China's magnesium industry.

More than 10,000 scientific and technological achievements were collected, where 8,200 items and 100 key projects were presented. 2,500 technological requirements were collected from enterprises. 293 universities reached cooperation agreements or cooperation intentions with 626 enterprises during the enent, and 732 scientific and technological achievements were realized in enterprises. In view of the latest technological achievement of the CCMg, "high performance magnesium alloy and advanced processing technology", the CCMg of the Chongqing University has successfully connected with the world-renowned Jiarui Group from Hong Kong, and signed a contract at this CUSTAF.
