Prof. Fusheng Pan and his delegation attended the 11th International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and Their Applications
CCMg Jul 29, 2018

On Jul. 21-29, 2018, Prof. Fusheng Pan (Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), chairman of Chongqing Association for Science & Technology, director of National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys) and his research group members visited Brunel University. Prof. Pan was invited to make a plenary presentation on the 11th International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and Their Applications

On July 22-23, Prof. Pan and his companies paid a visit to Brunel Centre for Advanced Solidification Technology, BCAST. BCAST was established in October 2002, and is one of the world's top solidification research groups by now. Prof. Zhongyun Fan, director of the BCAST, delivered a welcome speech and provided a labor touring for Prof. Pan. The two sides held talks on bilateral cooperation in the meeting room of the BCAST. Prof. Fan introduced the research progress of the BCAST, described the research and application on magnesium alloys in UK made by the BCAST. Prof. Pan introduced the research progress of magnesium alloy in China, and the situation of National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys (CCMg) and Chongqing Association for Science & Technology. The two sides made a discussion about the collaboration project which has been applied to the British government, and made relevant arrangements in future. The two sides discussed the new direction of future collaborations in detail, emphasized the top-level design of magnesium alloy development and the "China plan", reached a consensus on jointly promoting the prosperity and development of magnesium alloy. The two sides signed a memorandum of cooperation in cultivating PhD students.

The 11th International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and Their Applications was held at Beaumont Estate, Old Windsor, UK, on Jul. 24-27, 2018. The week-long conference was attended by 222 representatives and featured 140 oral presentations, of which 13 were plenary presentations, and 45 poster presentations. During the conference, Prof. Pan made a plenary presentation which the topic was about " Recent development of magnesium alloys and their processing technologies in China " , mainly introduced the latest progress of China's magnesium industry, high plastic magnesium alloy and magnesium alloy processing technology, and the projects in the field of magnesium alloy sponsored by the National Key Research and Development Program of China and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, introduced the development of the international standards on magnesium alloy. Prof. Jianfeng Nie (Chongqing University and Monash University) also gave a keynote report at the conference. Prof. Jian Peng, Prof. Guangsheng Huang, Prof. Jonghyun Kim, Associate Prof. Yaobo Hu and Dr. Jiangfeng Song of the CCMg gave oral presentations at the conference.

During the conference, Prof. Pan attended the meeting of international Magnesium Alloy Technical Committee, discussed relevant cooperation issues with Prof. K.U. Kainer( former chairman of International Magnesium Association, HZG Magnesium Center in Germany), Prof. Luo( Ohio State University), Prof. K.S. Shin (Member of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea), Mr. Ohara(Executive Vice President, Japan Magnesium Association), Prof. Hono(deputy director of National Institute of Materials, Japan), Prof. Rainer(Clausthal University of Technology, Institute of Metallurgy), and Dr. Bong Sun You(Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials). The technical committee determined the relevant contents on jointly projects.

The next conference of the Mg series will be held in Canada in 2021.
