In early August, the annual Beidaihe experts summer vacation was held as scheduled. At the invitation of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, Prof. Fusheng Pan, director of National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys, attended this summer vacation. Entrusted by Jinping Xi, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, Xi Chen, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, expressed the greetings and good wishes to the experts and held a symposium in Beidaihe on August 4. He was accompanied by Vice Premier Chunhua Hu, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Mr. Chen commended the experts for their contributions to the progress in China's scientific and technological innovation, social development and people's wellbeing, urging them to be leading models of patriotism and hard-working, and play exemplary roles in science reform and innovation. Mr. Chen encouraged them to make more efforts in innovation to help China boost its voice in the world and contribute to the realization of the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation. Specialists should carry forward the excellent tradition of the older generation of scientists. Mr. Chen encouraged them to serve the people and the country.

The 62 experts taking part in the holiday this year were representatives of outstanding scientist, who have made important contributions to their respective fields. In 1987, the Central Government invited experts from various fields to Beidaihe for the first time. Xiaoping Deng met with some representatives of science and technology experts in Beidaihe, which pioneered the vacation tradition.

In 2001, China raised the project of talents to the level of national strategy for the first time. experts on summer vacation was determined as a regime, and the location was set in Beidaihe, thus Beidaihe became the place where the senior official called on the country's leading scientists. Since 2001, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council have invited outstanding scientists and experts with relatively concentrated professional fields to Beidaihe and other places for vacation every summer. So far, more than 1,000 scientists and experts have enjoyed the summer vacation in 18 groups.
