A "Twelfth Five-Year" national science and technology support plan "Magnesium alloy special profile extrusion technology development" project led by Chongqing University passed the acceptance

The "Twelfth Five Year"National Science and Technology Support Program Project "Development of Magnesium Alloy Special Profile Extrusion Technology"led by the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys of Chongqing University passed the evaluation of the review group in Chongqing, April 18, 2014.

This project is the fourth subject of the special "Development of Key Technologies for Magnesium Alloy Forming and Application"under the "Twelfth Five Year"supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The project is led by Chongqing University, combined with Northeastern University, Beijing University of Technology, Zhengzhou University, General Institute of Mechanical Science, Chongqing Institute of Science and Technology, Shanxi Yinguang Huasheng Magnesium Co., Ltd., Shandong Huasheng Rong Magnesium Co., Ltd., Tianjin Dongyi Magnesium Products Co., Ltd., Dongguan Yian Technology Co., Ltd. and in total 11 domestic universities, research institutes and enterprises.

The evaluation meeting was hosted by the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association. The project review group inspected the magnesium alloy profile production site and listened to the technical and financial report on the implementation of the project by the project leader, Prof. Jingfeng Wang. The group of experts gave full recognition of the complement and achievements of this project, and unanimously agreed to the pass of the project.

Since its implementation in January 2011, the project has been led by the application demand of magnesium alloys, focusing on the research and development of large-size magnesium alloy wide profiles, such as the formability, high processing costs, and urgent breakthroughs in engineering application technology. The project has made great progress in the extrusion forming technology, straightening technology and microstructure and properties control technology of the wide hollow thin-walled magnesium alloy profile, and has successfully developed the wide hollow thin-walled magnesium alloy profile products with a section width of more than 500 mm. A new processing technology of magnesium alloy profile for high value-added internal fixation of bone has been successfully developed, including casting-extrusion integration and direct continuous bending forming.

The project has successfully developed more than 20 types of magnesium alloy profiles for Rail Transit, automobile and other fields, and has established three production lines and demonstration bases for magnesium alloy profiles, further expanding the application fields of magnesium alloy profiles, and further promoting the extensive application of magnesium alloy.
