On Nov. 16th, the nation's highest scientific award winner, China’s famous material scientists, famous strategic scientists, former vice president of the Chinese Academy of engineering, former deputy director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, honorary director of the Institute of metals, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Elsevier Press "Journal of Magnesium and Alloys" (co-sponsored by the CCMg and Magnesium alloy Branch of Chinese Materials Research Society) honorary editor, Mr. Changxu Shi farewell ceremony was held in the Beijing Babaoshan funeral home east hall. The black banner at the gate of the East Auditorium reads " Sorrowful mourning the death of Mr. Shi" and on both sides hang the Elegiac couplet. The body of Mr. Shi, draped in the bright red flag of the Communist Party of China, reposed in a cluster of fresh flowers and emerald cypress.

Mr. Changxu Shi passed away at 7:07 on November 10, 2014 in Beijing at the age of 96 due to illness. When Mr. Changxu Shi was seriously ill, former prime minister of state council of China Jiabao Wen and vice prime minister of state council of China Yandong Liu made a special trip to the hospital to visit him. After Shi's death, Party and state leaders Jinping Xi, Keqiang Li, Dejiang Zhang, Zhengsheng Yu, Yunshan Liu, Qishan Wang and Gaoli Zhang sent messages of condolence and wreaths to express their condolences. The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and other departments, institutions of higher learning, research institutions, social organizations and people from all fields have sent messages to the mourning Committee of Changxu Shi to express deeply condolences over the death.

At 9 am on Nov. 16, Changchun Li, former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Qide Han, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Yongxiang Lu, former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and other officials came to the body of Changxu Shi and stood in silence, bowing three times to the body.

Prof. Fusheng Pan, director of the CCMg and president of Chongqing Academy of Sciences, attended the farewell ceremony together with friends, colleagues, students and people from all respects of Mr. Shi. Xiuming Wu, former vice president of China Magnesium Association, and other officials attended the farewell ceremony.

After the death of Mr. Shi, the CCMg sent a message of condolence and a wreath. All teachers and students of CCMg said they would learn from the dedication of teachers and make contributions to the development of China.
