Prof. Fusheng Pan is co-chair of the 10th International Magnesium Conference
CCMg Oct 20, 2015

Oct. 11-16, 2015, the 10th International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and Their Applications was held in South Korea. Since the first conference held in 1986 in London, International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and Their Applications have been held in many famous places of the world, including Weimar in Germany in 2009, Vancouver in Canada in 2012, etc. The Conference provides a global platform for the high-level communication of all aspects of magnesium alloy and its application.

The conference was organized by the Korean Institute for Metal and Materials (KIM) and jointly organized by the Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), the Helmholtz Research Center, Germany (HZG) and Seoul National University. The conference is chaired by Prof. Kwang Seon Shin (Seoul National University, South Korea), Dr. Bong Sun You (Korea Institute of Materials Science), Prof. Karl Ulrich Kainer (Helmholtz Research Center, Germany) and Prof. Fusheng Pan (National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys, Chongqing University). A total of more than 600 experts and researchers from 23 countries and regions including United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Italy, Spain, China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, the Czech Republic, Singapore and India attended the conference. 375 oral reports were arranged and over 400 papers were received.

The conference lasted for six days, and the main activities included: keynote speech, seminar, wall newspaper exhibition, magnesium industry exhibition, etc. The seminar is divided into eight topics: production and recycling of raw magnesium, casting magnesium alloy(alloy’s development, microstructure, modeling and simulation), wrought magnesium alloy(alloy’s development, microstructure, texture and formability, extrusion and forging, sheet), long-period stacking orderly (LPSO) structure and related alloys, corrosion and surface treatment, biological application, welding and post-processing, nano-structure and composite materials. The eight topics cover almost all directions and fields of current research on magnesium alloys and their applied technologies.

Prof. Fusheng Pan (Director of CCMg), Prof. Jianfeng Nie, Prof. Dingfei Zhang, Prof. Bin Jiang, Prof. Renlong Xin and other ten scholars from CCMg attended the conference. Prof. Nie made a special presentation on "Solute Segregation and Aggregation in Mg Alloys: Implications to Alloy Design". During the conference, Prof. Fusheng Pan had in-depth exchanges and discussions with prof. Nack Joon Kim (editor-in-chief of Acta Mater), Academician Wenjiang Ding (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), Prof. Kwang Seon Shin, Prof. Karl Ulrich Kainer and other famous magnesium alloy experts. During the meeting, the International Magnesium Alloy Technical Committee meeting was held, and Prof. Fusheng Pan attended the meeting.
