The Seventh National Congress of the Chinese Materials Research Society was held in the China Science and Technology Hall, on Apr. 16, 2016. More than 350 domestic scholars, including material science and technology scholars and industry representatives, attended the conference. The participating experts are: Yong Shang (secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology), Enge Wang, (vice president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), Jun Song (head of the Academic Department of the Chinese Association for Science), Boyun Huang (the sixth chairman of the Chinese Materials Research Society), and so on.
At the meeting, Yong Shang (Party Secretary of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology) and Enge Wang (Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences) issued an important speech. Prof. Boyun Huang made a report on the work of the sixth board of directors. Zengzhi Zhang (Deputy Secretary-General) illustrated the amendments to the constitution of the Society, and Yafang Han (Secretary-General) made a report of the financial statement. Participants had a lively discussion on the articles of association of the Chinese Materials Research Society, the regulations of the board of supervisors, and the duties of directors and supervisors, and finally passed the articles of association and regulations of the board of supervisors. The important agenda of this congress is to elect the seventh council of the Chinese Materials Research Society. Through anonymous voting, 261 council members and 83 managing council members of the Seventh Council were elected. Through anonymous voting of council members, 2 directors and 13 vice directors were elected. Prof. Boyun Huang, (the former President of Central South University and Vice Chairman of China Association for Science and Technology), was invited to serve as Honorary Chairman. Prof. Yuanyuan Li (President of Jilin University) and Prof. Bingbo Wang (Northwestern Polytechnical University) were elected as Chairman of the Board for 2016-2018 and 2018-2010 two terms, respectively. Prof. Jianxin Xie (University of Science and Technology Beijing), Prof. Wenjiang Ding (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), Porf. Yingjun Wang (South China University of Technology), Prof. Fusheng Pan (Chongqing University), Prof. Duan Weng (Tsinghua University), and Dr. Rui Yang (Institute of metal research, Chinese Academy of Sciences) were elected as the Vice Chairman of the Board of term 2016-2020.
The conference also award the members who made important contributions to the work of the society during the six sessions of the council, and presented awards to 36 "Academic Contribution Awards" and 34 "Advanced Workers" winners. Hailing Tu, Ruiping Gao, Duan Weng, and Fusheng Pan, et al. won the "Academic Contribution Award", and Hui Chen and Bin Jiang, et al. were rated as "Advanced Workers".
Chinese Materials Research Society is a national first-level society established in 1991 by Prof. Changxu Shi (the former Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Deputy Director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China) and approved by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology. The society is one of the largest first-level societies in China, with 14 branches. The first to sixth chairman of this Society are Prof. Hengde Li, Prof. Lian Zhou and Prof. Boyun Huang, respectively.
The Chongqing representatives, Fusheng Pan, Weijiu Huang, Qingbin Liu, Xianquan Jiang, Jingfeng Wang, Bin Jiang, and Xianhua Chen, participated the National Member Congress. For the first time, four experts from Chongqing University entered the board of the Chinese Materials Research Society. Prof. Fusheng Pan (Dean of the Chongqing Academy of Science and Technology and Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys) was elected as the vice chairman, and Prof. Xiaoxu Huang, Prof. Jingfeng Wang and Prof. Bin Jiang were elected as the directors. It is a highly recognition of the research, development level and influence of the materials discipline of Chongqing University and the CCMg.
