CCMg May 24, 2016

The 73rd International Magnesium Association Annual Meeting was held by the International Magnesium Association on May 16-17, 2016, in Rome, Italy. In this annual meeting, the "Newly Asymmetric Extrusion Technology for Mass Production of Magnesium Alloy Sheets" that jointly developed by the CCMg of Chongqing University and Shanxi Yinguang Huasheng Magnesium Industry Co., Ltd., won the only process technology innovation award. Prof. Bin Jiang received the award on behalf of the CCMg. The International Magnesium Association presented 5 awards in terms of new products, new processes and new applications, to honor the units that have made significant contributions in promoting the development of the global magnesium industry and technological progress. At this conference, 4 technologies or products from world-renowned R&D and production institutions such as Germany, United States, Canada, and Japan won the 2016 Excellent New Product and Excellent Application Awards.

In the past 5 years, group of Prof. Fusheng Pan’s (CCMg of Chongqing University) has proposed innovative ideas for asymmetric processing of deformed magnesium alloys, and has carried out engineering experiments and industrialized applications in cooperation with Shanxi Yinguang Huasheng Magnesium Industry Co., Ltd.. The innovative process greatly reduced production costs while improving the product quality. After the application of related technologies, large-scale production of wrought magnesium alloy products has been realized and successful applications have been realized in companies such as Microsoft Corporation in the United States. The project won the Innovation Award awarded by the International Magnesium Association, the most influential international organization in the magnesium industry, which is a highly affirmation of the technology by the world magnesium alloy industry and is a great significance to the development of the worldwide wrought magnesium alloy industry.
