Prof. Fusheng Pan is elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering

The Chinese Academy of Engineering announced the 2017 elected academician on Nov. 27, 2017. Two candidates from Chongqing University were selected. Prof. Fusheng Pan was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Professor Yukio Tamura was elected as a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. So far, Chongqing University has 7 academicians from the two academies, and the other five are Shizhong Yang, Xuefu Xian, Xuhong Zhou, Yongbin Yang, and Wenyuan Li (foreign academician). In addition, the guest professor appointed by Chongqing University in Oct. 2017, the academician of the American Academy of Engineering and the current chairman of the International Association for Wind Engineering, Ahsan Kareem, was elected being a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Fusheng Pan, born in 1962, from Lanxi, Zhejiang, PhD, professor, doctoral supervisor, head of the national key discipline of materials science at Chongqing University, head of the "light metal" innovation team of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, dean of Chongqing University Light Metal Research Institute, director of National Engineering Technology Research Center for Magnesium Alloys , and Vice Chairman of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology. Furthermore, Prof. Fusheng Pan is also the visiting scientist at Chiba University in Japan, visiting professor at Queen Mary University of London, honorary professor at the University of Queensland in Australia, academician of the St. Petersburg Mining University, and academician of the Asia Pacific Academy of Materials, and now serving concurrently as the chairman of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) "Magnesium and Magnesium Alloy Technical Committee", the editor-in-chief of the international publication "Journal of Magnesium and Alloys" by Elsevier Publishing House, the director of the editorial board of the "University Popular Science Series" of Science Press, and the vice chairman of the Chinese Materials Research Society, Vice President of China Magnesium Association, Chairman of Chongqing Materials Society, etc.

Fusheng Pan received his bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctoral degree from Hefei University of Technology, Chongqing University and Northwestern Polytechnical University, respectively.

He graduated from the university at the age of 19 and was awarded the title of outstanding graduate. He was promoted to being a professor at the age of 30 and became the youngest professor in the history of Chongqing University; he was hired as a doctoral supervisor of Chongqing University in 1995, and become the youngest expert member of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council in 1998. He has studied in Oxford University in the UK, Universit?t Stuttgart, Queen Mary University of London and the University of Queensland in Australia. Because of his outstanding achievements during his study abroad, as a representative of outstanding overseas returnees, he has been interviewed many times by the main directors of the central government.

Fusheng Pan specializes in the research and application of magnesium alloys, aluminum alloys, tool steels, metallurgical casting and rolling technology, metallurgical melt purification technology, etc. and remarkable achievements have been made in the region of magnesium alloys. He is an internationally renowned magnesium alloy scientist and well-known aluminum alloy expert. He established the National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys and formed a scientific research team with broadly international influence. For more than 30 years, Prof. Fusheng Pan and his team have focused on solving key problems such as poor plasticity, formability, and purity of magnesium alloy materials. They have completed several important national projects and many important international cooperation. The project has achieved important innovations in the fields of high-plasticity magnesium alloy, advanced forming technology and deep purification, and has made important contributions to the development, growth and globalization of the science and technology of magnesium and the connected industry in our country. He has published more than 350 SCI indexed papers in internationally renowned journals and 12 books. He has won 4 awards from the National Technology Invention Award and Science and Technology Progress Award, more than 10 provincial and ministerial important technological awards and more than 100 national authorized invention patents. And several national standards have been formulated and approved. He has cultivated 17 post-doctoral students, more than 80 doctoral and master graduate students. He is the first batch of leading talents in the National Ten Thousand Talents Program (Special Support Program), the winner of "Ho Leung Ho Lee Award", "National Outstanding Professional and Technical Talent", "National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation", "DuPont Science and Technology Innovation Award" and "Second China Winner of Youth Science and Technology Award".  Fusheng Pan has served as the chairman of the International Magnesium Alloy Conference for 4 consecutive sessions, and was invited to serve as the co-chair of the European Materials Conference and the chairman of the World Materials Summit round table.

Fusheng Pan is a member of the 9th and 11th and 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and a deputy of the 10th National People's Congress.
