The Fifth Congress of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology was held in the Auditorium of Chongqing Municipal Party Committee on Dec. 14-15, 2017. Miner Chen (Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee), Jinpeng Huai (Secretary of the Party Group of the China Association for Science and Technology, Executive Vice Chairman, and First Secretary of the Secretariat), Guoqing Zhang (Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Mayor), Xuan Zhang (Director of the Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee), Songnan Xu (Chairman of the CPPCC Committee), Liangzhi Tang (Deputy Municipal Committee Secretary, Chongqing municipal leaders) Cunrong Wu, Yong Chen, Xiangang Wang, Qiang Liu, Luping Chen, Changhai Tao, Liming Du, and Guiyun Chen attended the meeting. Heqing Wang (secretary of the party group and executive vice chairman of the Municipal Association for Science and Technology), made a work report on behalf of the Fourth Committee of the Chongqing Association for Science and Technology. Jinpeng Huai (Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the China Association for Science and Technology), fully affirmed and spoke highly of the work of the Chongqing Association for Science and Technology over the past five years. Entrusted by Secretary Miner Chen, Liangzhi Tang, on behalf of the Municipal Party Committee, the Standing Committee of the Municipal People’s Congress, the Municipal Government, and the CPPCC, expressed warm congratulations of the convening of the conference, and emphasized the need to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Party, and vigorously implement science and education for the city and talents for the city. The strategic action plan strives to promote the work of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology to a new level.

On the morning of Dec. 15, the new association leadership of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology was elected in the Fifth Plenary Session. Academician Fusheng Pan (Dean of Chongqing Academy of Science and Technology and director of National Engineering Research Center for Magnesium Alloys) was elected as the new chairman of Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, Heqing Wang, Changming Chen, Tong Liu, and Wei Chen were elected as full-time vice-chairmen. Yungui Wang, President of Army Military Medical University (Third Military Medical University), Weiguo Zhang, President of Southwest University President, Xiaohui Shi, President of Chongqing University of Technology, Boming Tang, president of Chongqing Jiaotong University, and Xiuwu Bian, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences were elected as part-time vice chairmen. Academician Fusheng Pan, the newly-elected chairman of the Municipal Association for Science and Technology, said that in future work, politics will be the priority, innovation as the first pursuit, unity as the first principle, responsibility as the first responsibility, and dedication as the priority. Prof. Pan stressed that embrace the new era, practice new ideas, and achieve new deeds with a never-slack mental state and an indomitable attitude.
