On May 17, 2024, the International Advanced Functional Materials Forum, organized by the National Magnesium Alloy Material Engineering Technology Research Center of Chongqing University, the International Society for Functional Materials (in launching), and the Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, was successfully held in a hybrid method. The onsite venue was set up in Chongqing. The online forum was chaired by Academician Fusheng Pan, Honorary Director of the National Magnesium Alloy Materials Engineering Technology Research Center of Chongqing University, Academician Jürgen Eckert, Director of the Erich Schmid Institute of Materials Science, Director of Austrian Accademy of Sciences & Montanuniversität Leoben, and Academician John Wang, Director of Materials Science and Engineering at the National University of Singapore. The online forum was honored to have six distinguished academicians and experts from four countries in China and Europe to participate in the meeting and give presentations, organized by Prof. Yuan Yuan, Prof. Jun Tan and Prof. Liang Wu from Chongqing University, and chaired by Prof. Yuan Yuan and Dr. Dajian Li, Specialist of TESVOLT AG. The forum was broadcasted live by the “Journal of Magnesium and Alloys”, which was viewed by a total of nearly 3500 times.

Academician Fusheng Pan first delivered a speech, warmly welcoming all the academicians, experts, and students who participated in this forum. Academician Pan expressed that functional materials, as the frontier of advanced materials, play a pivotal role in the progress of global technology and civilization, and the global advanced materials community must unite to accelerate the development and application of functional materials and jointly promote the development of science and technology. Six invited experts presented keynotes on the latest research and development in their respective research fields. They are Academician Jürgen Eckert from Austria, Academician John Wang from Singapore, Prof. Maximilian Fichtner, Executive Director of the Helmholtz-Institute Ulm for Electrochemical Energy Storage, Germany, Academician Claudia Felser, Director of Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids, Germany, Academician Paolo Colombo from University of Padova, Italy, and Prof. Mikhail Zheludkevich, Director of the Institute of Surface Science at Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, Germany.
